Past lives or soul memories?

I used to enjoy listening to Dolores Cannon who specialises in past-life regression through hypnosis; and I have to be honest, some of her discussions were fascinating. However, I’ve always had an issue with the reincarnation side of her talks, as you know the Padgett messages contains writings against the idea.
As it is mentioned in the messages, the soul can exist for years before incarceration, and during that time the Soul can experience the hustle and bustle of the world around it, and anywhere else it chooses to roam.

Crazy talk:
Personally I have a few memories since childhood which are still vividly lodged in my memory. One of them being a gentleman in court charged with the murder of his wife, the Judge then placed a black cap upon his grey shaggy wig and says “You shall be hung by the neck until you are dead dead dead.” (Is that historically correct???) while the man pleads his innocence to the judge. I will skip the next part as it’s quite disturbing and how I could have such a memory from such a very young age beats me!?

The other memory was witnessing the love an elderly lady had for her pet budgerigar. This is the strangest part... I remember being in the cage with the budgerigar watching its every move as it spends ages pecking at a mirror. I also remember seeing the budgerigar crossover and learning how upset the elderly lady was when it happened, after that everything goes blank.

Now going back to past life regression... could it be that the Soul is so engrossed in the object/living thing it’s observing that it confuses itself into being the thing it has observed?
Could it be that the Soul doesn’t have the self-awareness or self-identification to know the difference? This could be a plausible reason for people to think they were someone famous in a past life?

I am not familiar with the concept you mentioned, so, cannot comment on that specifically. However, I also have some very vivid "memories" that don't belong to me in this lifetime. My understanding is that, especially for sensitive souls (or mediumistic souls), we can be "impressed upon" by spirits in our vicinity. I believe that, in my case, I came into energetic harmony with these souls due to topics I was studying at the time. I do believe they impressed their life memories upon my sympathetic soul to the point where I experienced their memory-imprints as past-life memories. And indeed they were!! Just not mine.

We’re going deep now! This section is more in line with the topic of the discussion. Instead of me using reincarnation, I think I should have used the phrase “Pre-incarnation” as I believe these ‘past memories’ are preparation lessons for readying the Soul to incarcerate... a ‘heads-up’ so to say. Which goes inline with the segment in Chapter 4.
Think of it like this... a pilot of a plain must practice aviation using a flights simulator. Even though the experience seems very real to the candidate, he has not actually flown an plane until he’s behind the cockpit of the physical plane.

Maybe these lessons feel so real to the soul that it mistakenly identifies the experience as past lives in the flesh introducing the mistaken belief of reincarnation which I strongly think the case is?

So as children we are more sensitive to spiritual activities around us making us more susceptible to spiritual influences surrounding us. So are we seeing visions on a mediumistic level and being so sensitive to the experience we mistake them as past life experiences?

Good topic here Des. I think that we are more influenced by spirits than we are aware of and that we have lots of different experiences in our sleep states that come into our memories in weird and distorted ways. There are levels of consciousness that are operating outside our conscious recollections and will surface in our dreams , meditations and daydreams as we access different levels of consciousness. . There are many explanations outside of the regular 'reincarnation' construct that are equally valid. Since the world of spirit is in many ways very much like this one, it does not make sense to have to reincarnate in order to continue growing and living our lives. We progress through many stages and expressions of who we are as we travel through the different spheres of spirit. Progression seems to be a very linear and forward moving thing. There is no need to double back and do it again in the flesh when so much awaits us in spirit and in the Celestial Heavens. I don't argue with others about this idea because many on the earth plane are fixated that this is the most valid and powerful mode for soul growth. Unfortunately neither of us are able to prove otherwise except with intellectual sparing which is not my cuppa tea. I used to believe in this idea many years ago but have since changed my mind completely since understanding more clearly the reality of progression through the spheres of spirit. This makes greater sense to me than the reincarnation explanation. I hope that you agree Des. God bless.......al

Great topic! Your term "pre-incarnation" clarifies your previous point very well. As I mentioned before, I am not familiar with this concept and so cannot comment, but, your analogy of a flight simulator is outstanding! Makes perfect sense.

Geoff and Al both delve deep enough with their answers to help me realize that this topic of 'seeming' past-life memories is complex. I completely agree with Al that soul progression requires no doubling-back...and I am DELIGHTED BEYOND MY ABILITY TO EXPRESS that I NEVER HAVE TO COME BACK TO EARTH AS A MORTAL, EVER AGAIN!!! Hooraaayyy!!! Waaaaay toooo much sin, error and otherwise darkness for my soul to feel comfortable here!

So agree! I pondered the idea of reincarnation when I was 10/12yo and was put off instantly. What if I came back as some bug? That kind of creeped me out. Then I started to worry about the essence of being me becoming lost, my memories, kindness, experiences would all be lost forever. That idea actually gave me nightmares for a long time!

Like you, I was so relieved a few years ago when reading the Padgett messages for the first time, throwing any reality of the idea out the window - phew!

Fascinating topic here! In my experience, I feel we know very little about our powerful abilities and connections to others, both living in the flesh and otherwise. I have read part way through geoffs book and it is fascinating! Among other things, the book discusses real events in which spirits were able to influence people here with their reality. I'm sure that could seem like past lives.

I have also studied some of the science behind memories and learned that our DNA can hold memories from our ancestors and those can be passed down through the generations. I believe even some of the channeled messages discuss this topic (sins of the father). This could account for certain memories.

Let's go further down the rabbit hole...if we are all connected through a field of universal energy or consciousness, couldnt we have access to each person, living, dead, or otherwise and be able to tap into their memories and/or reality? I'm assuming certain people have those abilities developed more than others. And what about remote viewing? Or the ability to astral travel out of your body to observe/communicate with others elsewhere? There is so much more to learn about why we have those seemingly past life memories! I'm sure I'm only scratching the surface of what's real and/or possible. I'm sure in developing our souls through divine love, we'll learn so much more about our amazing abilities! It's exciting to thInk about!
